Cosfest VIII: A Very Happy Event

Everybody should be happy; everybody should be at Cosfest VIII

Singapore
, 29th Jun 2009 - Anime and manga aficionados, rejoice! The biggest cosplay convention in Singapore is making its annual return to Downtown East on 11 and 12 July. Into its 8th glorious year, Cosfest VIII: A Very Happy Event, jointly organised by NTUC Club and Singapore Cosplay Club, promises to live up to its ultra-happy theme and rock your weekend. It will be bold; it will be beautiful; it will be a blast!

See how hundreds of cosplayers breathe spirited life into their favourite characters. Watch cosplayers pay tribute to well-established anime and manga personalities. If you have ever wondered where to cosplay and how to cosplay, Cosfest VIII is the best avenue to embark on appreciating the art and craft of cosplay. Amateur cosplayers can look forward to being inspired by other cosplayers to bring their own cosplay to a higher level of professionalism while veteran cosplayers can compete in three different cosplay competitions: the Individual, Group and World Cosplay Summit categories. As with previous years, Cosfest VIII will host the Singapore round of World Cosplay Summit. Winners will represent Singapore and compete in Japan with the world’s finest cosplayers, with accommodation, food and airfare all fully paid for.

The anime karaoke competition is another highlight of Cosfest VIII. Think you have an edge because you know Japanese and sing well? The requirements of anime karaoke go beyond that. Singers should try to sound as close as possible to the original vocalist. Styling yourself as a character from the anime helps a lot too. So this will definitely be a rare treat for fans of anime who can look forward to hearing their beloved theme songs being performed live!

Cosfest VIII will not be as complete or happy without the Doujinshi booths from aspiring artists who print and bind their own books and sell it to their fans. Over the past 8 years, many have had a chance to show their fans more of their works as they hone their artistry and imagination. There are also booths where cosplayers sell their own handmade cosplay accessories that are unique and exclusive, to be found nowhere else!

Cosfest VIII: A Very Happy Event is supported by the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Creative Centre. Sponsors and partners include Animax, ANA, JAL, Japan National Tourism Organisation, JTB and Toshiba.
