The Quest 2009 - Museum Edition

The Quest 2009 - Museum Edition

Catch 2,500 youths in action this Saturday!

GOH: Dr Vivian Balakrishnan
Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports

15 November 2009 - 2,500 youths with the brains, the brawn and the street-smarts will face off one another in The Quest 2009 - Museum Edition, a signature nEbO event, this Saturday, 21 Nov 2009 with Fort Green in Fort Canning Park as the flag-off point. This is no ordinary race but an amazing-race-style challenge putting youthful mettle and passion to the test. Youths form teams of 4 or 5 and complete a series of tasks island-wide to dig out little known facts about Singapore in the shortest time to win attractive prizes.

Challenges will be based on the history and heritage of Singapore as well as NTUC to instill a sense of pride and nationhood in youths. nEbO has decided on this heritage theme to bring out the importance of nation-building for a new generation. This is particularly significant as Singapore celebrates her 50th year of self-governance this year. Throughout these 50 years, the Labour Movement has played a crucial role as a tripartite partner in Singapore’s progress and development. Youths will find out interesting facts about Singapore’s formative years, and learn how social enterprises such as NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Income and NTUC LearningHub have contributed to and supported its growth from its humble beginnings to a global city.

So, don’t be surprised to find youths at the National Archives of Singapore one moment, zipping down to the Peranakan Museum next and racing against time to reach the Changi Museum before anyone else does. There are many adventure trails, but all paths lead to the same winning route ending in Downtown East.

For the first time, we also welcome 36 youths from the region, representing countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Vietnam and Taiwan joining us in The Quest 2009 - Museum Edition. This is part of nEbO’s efforts to be a regional and international platform for youth exchange, interaction and engagement.

With  more than  30,000 youths joining the nEbO family in slightly over two years, nEbO  is  on  its  way  to  be  the  largest local youth community and in a strong position to contribute to youth development in Singapore. nEbO is Not The Usual Club. As a vibrant community of youths, powered by youths, for the youths, nEbO believes in learning by aspiration and leading by inspiration. Youths have the right to pursue their dreams and nEbO actively seeks out the opportunities for them to shine.

With The Quest 2009 – Museum Edition, nEbO offers Singapore youths and our youths from other countries the opportunity to create history, to interpret history and to appreciate history from a larger context and perspective.

Youths will have fun on this trip down memory lane that will showcase Singapore’s rich culture in its full glory. There is more than $20,000 worth of prizes to be won, with the champion team bagging bragging rights and $10,000 worth of prizes.

Singapore Press Holdings and buzz are partners for The Quest 2009 – Museum Edition. Main sponsors include National Heritage Board and Parkway Health while other sponsors include social enterprises such as NTUC FairPrice, NTUC Income and NTUC LearningHub,  as well as Party World KTV, Downtown East, National Parks and Park Connector Network. The Quest 2009 – Museum Edition is also supported by Nanyang Technological University, with Timex as the official timer for the event.
