Our Staff

The ones who made it all possible - our 420 staff of NTUC Club embody our core values and consistently do their best to ensure that the quality of work and service standards are met.

Achieving national recognition for our service standards

Every year, over 200 of our staff are recognised at the national Excellent Service Award (EXSA) for delivering exceptional service and creating memorable experiences for guests.

In 2019, Mohammad Khairi from Wild Wild Wet's medic team was nominated for the Association of Singapore Attractions (ASA) Superstar Award. He displayed professionalism and upheld service standards when responding to a traffic accident that took place outside Downtown East.

"It was a natural response for me to provide first-aid for the passengers when I arrived on-scene. Even though it was part of my duty, I'm proud to be nominated for the EXSA Superstar Award. I'm even happier that I was able to help save lives. It feels good to be recognised for my efforts, and I hope to inspire my colleagues to always go the extra mile for our guests and all."

- Mohammad Khairi, Medic, Wild Wild Wet

We introduced our very own internal recognition and appreciation initiative, STARS. With a new theme every year, this annual awards presentation for The Club STAR, Unsung Hero and EXSA winners promises an evening of fun with its creative concepts, programmes, and prizes.

"This is an event for staff, by staff! In addition to nominating our staff for external awards, the decision to organise STARS annually stems from our desire to hold a fun event to appreciate our staff. The Club STAR and Unsung Hero Awards celebrate outstanding individuals and provide an opportunity to recognise both frontline and behind-the-scenes staff who play a vital role in ensuring that operations and high service standards are always met."

- Gigi Low, Head of Department, Experience

"I'm very honoured to receive The Club STAR Award! I was not expecting it, but I'm thankful for everyone who voted for me. It's nice to be appreciated for my work. Thank you to the organising team for putting up the amazing decorations and organising the surfboard design contest."

- Jamain Sulaiman, Officer, Joint Operations

unsung heroesOur cleaners. security and landscape workers at the 2018 Appreciating 'U' Our Unsung Heroes event at Downtown East.

Together with U Care Centre, we have been actively raising awareness about the important roles our heroes play behind-the-scenes in keeping Downtown East clean and hospitable for members and guests alike. "Appreciating U: our Unsung Heroes" is one such event that we organise on a yearly basis to appreciate our workers for their hard work and contributions.

In 2019, the seventh year we held this event, more than 50 cleaners, gardeners, security guards and technicians were given free health checks. As a small token of thanks, our workers were also given Downtown East vouchers and treated to a sumptuous buffet lunch at Sakura restaurant.

Growing together as One Club

NTUC Club signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Attractions, Resorts & Entertainment Union (AREU) and the Employment & Employability Institute (e2i) to support the NTUC-initiated Company Training Committee (CTC) in 2019. Working alongside the unions, our staff will be equipped with the necessary technical and adaptive technology-related skillsets to keep up with organisational transformations.

Training and upskilling our staff are a priority of NTUC Club. A series of programmes have been carefully curated and selected to support our capability growth programmes. These range from courses aimed at developing traits such as leadership and teamwork, to skill-based workshops such as Performance Management, Design Thinking, SkillsFuture for Digital Workplace, Digital Marketing, Business Analytics and more.

To encourage openness in sharing, new staff are also invited to an informal coffee and tea session with our CEO for a mutual sharing session to get to know one another.

"I attended the Harnessing Design Thinking for Innovation Workshop with my colleagues. The course was fun, hands-on, and challenged my perceptions of problem solving. It encouraged me to think critically for innovative solutions. This course has developed me both professionally and as an individual. I look forward to applying these skills to my current profession."

- Aldrich Tham, Executive, Membership Engagement - Partnership

Spreading happiness to all

The past four years saw NTUC Club embarking on various Do Good projects with our unions to give back to the community. In 2017 and 2018, NTUC Club staff visited beneficiaries such as Willing Hearts and Singapore Food Bank, to help prepare meals. In 2019, together with the Attractions, Resorts & Entertainment Union (AREU), Club staff sewed stuffed toys made from socks. Proceeds from the sale of the toys were made to Dignity Mama, to enable young adults with disabilities to gain basic entrepreneurial skills and lead independent lives.

"Beyond helping our beneficiaries, we hope to expose our staff to social issues and instill the spirit of volunteerism in them. We also encourage them to continue their volunteering efforts in their own time and always be on the lookout for those who need help."

- Evelyn Goh, Assistant Manager, Corporate Administration

Staff also came together to conceptualise and construct special Chillax corners within D'Resort for our resort guests. Every corner is specially themed to the liking of our guests.

To encourage inter-departmental bonding, NTUC Club frequently engages staff through fun and healthy events such as weekly Pilates, Yoga and Zumba sessions. A commemorative DE Amazing Race was also organised as part of the Downtown East 30 celebrations in 2018.
